Homeschool Frequently Asked Questions

Please refer to the Prepare an Order section for help preparing an order.

What will be in the testing packet?
Instruction sheet, CAT/5 achievement test student book, examiner manual (instructions to read to student), test timing record sheet, separate answer sheet for 3rd grade and higher, and a testing affidavit (examiner signature verifying proper testing procedures).

Are all of these tests approved by the state?
Yes, most states accept the Complete Battery of the CAT/5 (1991 norms).

What are the qualifications for the test administrator?
Compliance varies from state to state. Please check the codes and requirements for your state.

Can I use the tests to review and prepare my students?
No! CTB McGraw-Hill, the test publisher, specifically excludes using tests for practice or preparation. See the agreement and test instructions.

How long do I have to administer the tests?
A one week test period is scheduled and recommended.  All test materials must be returned by the 7 day deadline.

What about late returns?
Late returns are subject to a $100.00 minimum per student late fee.

What if my child is sick on test day?
We ask for an alternative testing date when purchasing your testing package in case of sickness.  The 2nd choice should be set within one week after your 1st choice. Please notify our office if you must use your 2nd choice alternative for an approved extension.

When will I receive my test results?
After we RECEIVE your completed tests, please allow AT LEAST 6-8 weeks for CTB to score and process reports. If you need test scores by June 15, completed tests must be returned to us by March 31.

What about my special needs student?
For example, a level 13 test is usually for 3rd grade, it can be used for a range of 2.6 to 4.2 grades. Students with special needs functioning below chronological grade level may be tested off level, but if a student is functioning more than one year off level the student test will be coded ungraded.
